Open Canoe Definition

Open canoes or ‘Canadian canoes’ as they are often called are the ideal boats for lake touring where 2 people can paddle together. With fitted seats and an abundance of space (excellent leg room) these boats are comfortable to paddle over a full day. Due to the storage and carrying capabilities it is possible to carry extra clothing, food and drinks, barbeques and full camping equipment where required. All of our equipment is safely stored in watertight storage barrels or large capacity dry bags to keep the rain out or even the lake, should that inadvertent capsize occur!

If we encounter rough and windy conditions, open canoes have the added bonus of easily being rafted together with wooden spars and straps to create catamaran style rafts that are extremely stable. This can be great fun as we can erect sails and try our hand at using the wind as our new form of propulsion!! Paddle these boats as a pair or if you have some experience then try paddling them solo which is also great fun.

All of our open canoes are of high quality and they are maintained to a very high standard. We have fitted to all of our canoes robust, solid block buoyancy at each end to give additional buoyancy. A barrel is taken on all journeys, which contains extensive safety equipment.
