Friday: Meet on Friday evening at Ambleside Youth Hostel where you will be met by your instructors and guides. After introductions and once you have settled in we will provide you will a small presentation about the weekend. |
Saturday: Paddle the length of Windermere. After a hearty breakfast we will take a 30-minute drive to the southern end of Windermere where we start our journey and launch our boats. Starting with some basic paddle stroke techniques and some input on emergency procedures you will quickly learn how to handle your boat with ease under supervision from our highly skilled instructors. We initially will follow one of the shorelines as we head north, which allows us to enter many of the quieter bays and continually develop our paddling technique as we go. We will have many opportunities to stop and stretch our legs and top up with snacks and refreshments. Lunchtime will see us tucking into a fantastic barbecue possibly on an island or on a quiet little beach where we can relax. |
This day can be a long one but it is run at a nice relaxing steady pace where most people will easily complete the journey - even if you have never paddled before! |
Once we reach our destination at Ambleside Youth Hostel you literally only have a 20m walk to reach your accommodation where tea and coffee awaits us. A 3 course dinner will be provided by the hostel and after dinner we will provide you with a short presentation on the following day. In addition we can also look at the digital images from your journey on Windermere today on our screen via laptop and digital projector! |
Sunday: Ascend the highest mountain in England - Scafell Pike After a good night's sleep and another hearty breakfast we drive to Langdale where we start our mountain journey onto the highest mountain in England. Our route takes us up a ridge named 'The Band' onto Bowfell then over Esk Pike followed by Great End and Broad Crag before we make the final push for the summit of Scafell Pike. Throughout the day our instructors and guides will be on hand to teach you some navigation should you wish to learn some techniques - we provide all clients with a map which they may keep! Our particular route on this day avoids on many occasions the main paths that are normally used so that we can do some easy scrambling and more often than not have the mountain to ourselves. We will continually take digital images and some video footage, which you will be presented with on a DVD after your weekend - we will try to capture you in action throughout the weekend as often as possible! Lunch today will be a scrumptious packed lunch, which will provide the necessary energy levels on this great mountain journey.
Our return leg will be a more direct route down the mountain which will see us drop into the valley of Mickleden at the head of Great Langdale and this will lead us back to our start point and to a well deserved drink at the 'Dungeon Ghyll' Inn. |
If you are looking for a challenging, fun, adventure and a memorable weekend in The Lake District, this is the weekend for you. |
Come and make new friends, learn some new skills and most of all have a great experience.
