Programme
Friday: Meet on Friday evening at Barrow House YH by Derwent Water where your instructors and guides will meet you. An evening meal is available if you arrive by 7pm.After introductions and once you have settled in we will provide you with a small presentation about the weekend and also provide you with some clothing and equipment for the next few days.
Saturday: After a hearty breakfast we will drive to Glenridding. We will ascend Striding Edge under the close supervision of your instructor who holds the Mountain Instructor Award and who will demonstrate a range of techniques to enable you to traverse across the ridge with ease. The ridge is well within the capabilities of anyone with some walking experience - you do not have to have any scrambling or climbing experience to complete this traverse as you will be in safe hands at all times. We will summit Helvellyn and hopefully be fortunate enough to have a 360ยบ panoramic view of the Lake District and all of the other peaks. From here we will head north across the plateau and cross the summit of 'Raise' before descending into the Thirlmere valley via the Fisher Ghyll path and to Thirlspot for a well deserved drink. Our transport will meet us here and transport us back to Barrow House for dinner. After dinner we can relax and we'll show the digital images and film footage from the day through our laptop and digital projector.
abseil at brown slabs

Sunday: After a hearty breakfast we will head down to the Lake, which is literally only a 200metres walk to start our canoe or kayak journey. This day journey will see us circumnavigate the lake and stop on many of the fantastic islands to stretch our legs. At the southern end of the lake we will have a barbecue lunch and have easy access to an impressive 100ft slab where we will abseil. Try the bridge jump into the river Derwent before we head back towards the hostel if you feel the urge?
